When Delta Spirit moved across the country from San Diego to Brooklyn, the band left its roots-rock reputation behind. The “new” Delta Spirit still overflows with energy, but there’s nothing acoustic or folksy about the group’s new self-titled album, which came out March 13. Guitars once strummed are run through effects pedals, while the fabled trash-can percussion of 2008’s Ode to Sunshine has been replaced by a streamlined, uptempo backbeat.

Check out the band’s new sound during a live concert webcast from Philadelphia’s Union Transfer, brought to you by WXPN.
