Uncertainty sometimes leads us to our most creative moments. Such is the case for 28-year-old Georgia-bred Ernest Greene (better known by his stage name Washed Out): After graduating from the University Of South Carolina with a masters degree in Library And Information Science and subsequently failing to find work as a librarian, he moved back home and decided to give music a try. Washed Out creates dreamy, calming beats that are heavily influenced by ’80s hip-hop and are loaded with mellow synthesizer. Now that Greene has found his musical footing, he’s also finding successful publicity–his single “Feel It All Around” is featured in the opening sequence of the popular sketch-comedy show Portlandia. Washed Out ironically proves that uncertainty can open doors to possibilities once unimaginable. Washed Out performs with Memoryhouse at 8:30 p.m. at Union Transfer; tickets to the all-ages show are $15. –Lisa Henderson
