McCartney Monday (Happy 70th Birthday, Paul!)

Happy Birthday Paul McCartney! Today is Paul’s 70th birthday and to celebrate we’ve declared it McCartney Monday on WXPN. Throughout the day we’ll be playing music from The Beatles and McCartney’s solo catalog. Starting at 10 am Helen Leicht will play covers of McCartney songs recorded some of our favorite local bands including Jim Boggia, Juston Stens & The Get Real Gang, Griz, Birdie Busch, Andrew Lipke and many others. Cliff Hillis will join Helen in the Noon hour for a live in-studio performance. Tonight, at World Cafe Live there will be a special Philly Rising Open Mic: Beatles Edition hosted by Boy Wonder starting at 6:30. At 8 PM Helen Leicht will host a special Philly tribute to McCartney with Juston Stens & the Get Real Gang, Tom Hamilton, Jen Creed, Griz, Adams Wilson Band, Hank’s Cadillac, Graham Alexander and many others. One of the musicians who covered a McCartney song is Griz, who covered “Put It There.” Listen to it below then watch a few of our favorite videos from Sir Paul.
