Tomorrow night, WXPN Welcomes Arc In Round to Johnny Brenda’s for their record release party. The band’s first full length self-titled album is out on La Société Expéditionnaire. Opening the show are Beige, Pet Milk, Tadoma, and the Pink Skull DJs will be on the wheels of steel throughout the evening. We reached out to the band via e-mail to pick some songs and bands that they’re fans of. Below, guitarist and vocalist Jeff Zeigler and keyboardist/vocalist Mikele Edwards weigh in with some choice musical selections.

Jeff’s picks:

“Working Nights” by Camberwell Now
“I’ve been a big fan of This Heat for years, but when I heard ex-drummer/vocalist/etc’s post-TH project Camberwell Now for the first time it was a total revelation to me. This song contains every aspect of what I love about this band: atmospheric early-sampling, tight but not overly-showy musicianship and a ‘machine logic’ that I’ve always related to. And it’s just a great song.”

“Savoir Faire” by Family Fodder
“This song has been on repeat for me the last 6 months or so. Props to Jesse Trbovich from Kurt Vile and the Violators for turning me on to this band. As one youtube commenter put it “For everybody who’s ever said, “Gee, I wish Stereolab sounded more like This Heat,” here ya’ go.”

“Sounds of Sebring” by Swirlies
“One of my favorite bands and one of the few “shoegaze” type bands that I wholeheartedly love. A big influence on both Mikele and I.”

Mikele picks:

“Both of these songs have been on repeat for me lately. The Portishead song came out shortly after their last album “Third” and the Mount Eerie song is off of their last album released recently. I’m intrigued by how these songs don’t necessarily have parts, they’re both very linear. Yet they find a way to keep transforming and building. And you can never go wrong with rich sounding synths/organs and kraut-y drums.”
