The Tuesday Tune-Out series at PhilaMOCA continued last night, this time pairing experimental electronic musicians Jesse Kudler and Alex Tyson with a program of 1970s educational and documentary shorts pulled from the collection of Herbie Shellenberger, who curated the series for the month of July. Combining sounds from a network of analog synthesizers and effects station with manipulated film audio (and even a microphone on the projector), the performers created what could loosely be described as dream-like cybernetic soundtracks that made the experience kind of like watching television in a parallel universe. Check out a slideshow above to get a sense of what it looked like (though sound was arguably as big of a component), and read more about Shellenberger’s selections for the month of July ” target=”_blank”>here.
