Grammy-nominated local DJ and producer King Britt has curated Cosmic Culture: A Sonic Journey into Afrofuturism, the latest exhibition in The Pew Center for Arts and Heritage’s broadcast program Noise from the 18th Floor, an exploration of noise in music. For the special broadcast, Britt compiled a playlist — including songs by Miles Davis, Bonobo, and Sun Ra — which showcases the sounds that he draws upon to create the afro-futuristic influences in his sonic work. Britt also composed a new piece, “Beyond the Sun,” exclusively for the program (click here for direct download). Cosmic Culture: A Sonic Journey into Afrofuturism broadcasts online at 8 AM, 10 AM., noon, 10 PM, midnight, and 2 AM from the Pew Center’s website. You can also check out King Britt’s recent interview on the preservation of vinyl with Dust and Grooves here.
