Okayplayer relaunches this fall as a digital-only label
Fans of The Roots know well that the band’s Okayplayer imprint has been “giving you true notes since 1987.” Which, taking into account its extensive web presence, is totally true. On the other hand, the last Okayplayer release as a formal label was in 2004 with the True Notes Vol. 1 compilation. (must be an affinity for names containing punctuation marks) and DJ / producer Young Guru. The former’s LP Payback is slated for a Sept. 25 release, the latter’s instrumental album Essentials Vol. 1drops on Oct. 9. ?uest says he’s been “waiting years for the right moment to relaunch the label” and “I’m excited for what the future holds for Okayplayer Records, and look forward to releasing more great projects over the next few years.” Us too!
