Canadian rock band The Sheepdogs came into public attention in 2011 when they appeared on the August cover of Rolling Stone. Before that, the band had independently released three full-length albums with mild success, but after gaining recognition it was signed to the Warner Music Canada label and Atlantic Records. Sheepdogs have since garnered critical success in Canada, winning awards such as “Favorite New Artist,” “Favorite Indie Album,” and “Favorite New Album” at the CASBY Awards in 2011, “Rock Album of the Year” at the 2011 Western Canadian Music Awards, and “Rock Album of the Year,” “Best New Group” and “Single of the Year” at the 2012 Juno Awards. They just released the song “The Way it Is” in July as the first single for their new self-titled album, which was produced by The Black Keys’ drummer Patrick Carney. It’s set to release on September 4th, just in time for their Free at Noon performance on September 7th – WXPN’s first to be broadcast from The Porch at 30th Street Station. Listen to Sheepdogs’ new single in the player below and, if you like what you hear, be sure to RSVP next week for their Free at Noon performance.
