Listen to The Heart, The Echo and The Loop, an instrumental album from East Hundred’s Brooke Blair
Since East Hundred‘s breakup earlier this year, the band’s founding brothers, Will and Brooke Blair, have kept busy at a steady clip. In the summer, the two signed on to score Blue Ruin, a new thriller being produced by childhood friend and frequent collaborator Jeremy Sauinier. Today, we have an offering just from Brooke – an instrumental album called The Heart, The Echo and The Loop. The record shines bright with electronic pop flourishes akin to his old band – in another world, its 80s dance tempos and guitar arpeggios might be complimented nicely by vocals from Beril Guceri – but the album also explores stirring post-rock realms akin to Caribou and current blog favorites DIIV, stuff that’s another world altogether from East Hundred. From Brooke’s Bandcamp page:
The Heart was recorded in bedrooms, basements and home studios in every corner of Philadelphia over a period of three years. Personally performing every part and playing every instrument, Blair bounces from guitar, bass and lap steel to the less traditional but familiar colors of the tongue drum, mellotron and vintage drum machines. Blairʼs process was solitary and individual and The Heart is his most personal work to date. In making this album he was inspired by his love of family, his affection for his fiance and his sense of childhood nostalgia.
