Download an early version of Field Report’s “Fergus Falls” from the Folkadelphia archives (playing World Cafe Live on Nov. 9)
After playing our XPoNential Music Festival this summer, and playing the periphery of Philadelphia (Wilmington and Sellersville) earlier this month, Field Report this week announced a return to town in November for a show at World Cafe Live. Today we’re digging into the XPN archives for some Field Report history – before it went by its current name, the band was called Conrad Plymouth (a countrified spin on songwriter-guitarist Chris Porterfield’s initials). It released a humble handful of EPs, toured the U.S., and in spring of 2011, a scaled-back version of the band – Porterfield and keyboard player Nick Berg – visited WXPN with their friend Tim Showalter of Strand of Oaks to record a collaborative session for Folkadelphia. In the session, the band recorded a handful of songs that would later show up on the Field Report album – including a stunning rendition of opening track “Fergus Falls,” which you can download below. Tickets for the band’s November 9 appearance at World Cafe Live go on sale here this Friday, September 28, at 10 a.m.
