Out of Town Films announces showcase concert with Free Energy at Johnny Brenda’s in October
With almost a year of music videography under their belt, the guys at Out of Town Films are starting to take their operations off the internet and out to the public. Today they announced the first Out of Town Films showcase concert, headlined by revved-up Philly power-poppers Free Energy. The show takes place at Johnny Brenda’s on Wednesday, October 17. Tickets to the 21+ will be $10 in advance, $12 at the door, and can be ordered here. Opening the show will be Edison, the spacey rock outfit that Out of Town Films co-founder Michael James Murray plays lead guitar in.
When we caught up with him by phone this afternoon, Colin Kerrigan – the other half of the Out of Town Films team – told us that the goal is to have a showcase concert every few months, bringing bigger-name acts into intimate rooms. “A band like Free Energy would usually play Union Transfer,” Kerrigan says. “But for our showcase, the idea was just ‘we’ll put high caliber bands in this cool little space.'” Though the guys have amassed an admirable collection of videos over the past year, there’s no plan to turn this into a multimedia event – the focus, says Kerrigan, is going to be the music. “I feel like there’d be mixed reviews of having the crowd stand there and watch our videos on a screen,” he says. “I’d rather have Free Energy throw a kickass party.” Below, watch the video that Out of Town Films shot with Free Energy at DiPinto Guitars this summer.
