Starting Tomorrow: $17 tickets for the Electric Factory’s 17th anniversary

Some 17 years ago this month, a new incarnation of legendary Philly rock hall The Electric Factory opened at 7th and Callowhill, introducing a new generation of Philly live music fans to the experience of seeing a band in a midlevel standing-room-only venue. Spaces this size have a cool vibe – large enough to feel like a big rock show, small enough to allow fans to get up close, giving the all-important feeling of concert intimacy. If memory serves, The Electric Factory opened on October 18, 1995 with a performance by Sonic Youth, Dirty Three and Bardo Pond. This was what folks nowadays like to call a “soft opening” – the big headlines and buzz were centered around Bruce Springsteen’s appearance in the room the following night.

With 17 years of rock under their belt (and pop, and hiphop, dance music), the folks at the Factory are celebrating this month with a special ticket offer. Starting tomorrow at noon, and running for the next 17 days, a limited number of $17 tickets will be available for all shows on their calendar. This includes some pretty sweet gigs, like Cat Power’s October 25 appearance, Nas and Lauryn Hill on November 7 and The Gaslight Anthem with Philly’s own The Menzingers on November 27.
