Watch Low Cut Connie jam out at Ray’s Happy Birthday Bar (playing Johnny Brenda’s on Friday)
Ragtime rockers Low Cut Connie performed a surprise lunchtime set yesterday at Ray’s Happy Birthday Bar, the popular South Philly drinkery that’s also one of the featured locations in the band’s recent “Boozophilia” video. In attendance was XPN host Eric Schuman, as well as Dan DeLuca and a video crew from the Philadelphia Inquirer, a cluster of fans and some regular lunchtime patrons taken unawares by the sudden rock show. Eric got two videos of the (very loud) band playing their song “Rio” and jamming with Ray’s owner Lou Capozzoli, who played sax on a cover of the Motown classic “Money (That’s What I Want).” Check the videos out below (and look for more from the Inky later this week). Low Cut Connie plays Johnny Brenda’s on Friday, November 9 – tickets and information can be found here.
