New Music: Restorations “New Old” (playing Siren Records on 2/1)
If you’ve been following the progress of punk-rooted Philly rockers Restorations as they recorded with Jonathan Low at Miner Street, you’re probably as amped as, well, their amps. Today we’ve got taste of the new full-length they’re dropping in the spring. The anthemic “New Old” gallops and roars at double time, brings it back for a breath-catching pause, and rips right out onto the course, keyboardist Ben Pierce’s notes ringing out Danny Federici style and singer Jon Loudon calling to task the rock and roll rabble. “And you, your songs write themselves / and you, you’re no better.” This song sounds like the opposite of what he describes – it’s clearly the result of a lot of care and craft. Check it out below, look for it on 7″ this winter, and while we’re waiting for the full record to drop, catch Restorations as they play an in-store at Siren Records in Doylestown on February 1.
