Kate Nash is having trouble sleeping. And as we see in this new music video, she battles it like many of us – tossing, turning, getting up, pacing, etc. Eventually she just gives in and writes a great pop song. “3 a.m.” is snappy and piano driven, like the best moments of Nash past. But it also shows her growth as an artist since Made of Bricks came out in 2007 and everybody got her confused with Lily Allen because of shared sass and oh-so-similar west-London accents.

Over the course of a bumpy sophomore album (2010’s My Best Friend Is You) and a few years, Nash sounds poised to rebound on Girl Talk, due out on March 5th on her own imprint, Have 10p Records. From this new single, the vibe is that the singer is focusing on songwriting moreso than kitsch (or the shock value of having tracks titled “Dickhead”) – which is great, since good songs were always her strength. (See “Foundations.”) “3 a.m.” is going to sound great when Nash plays a rather sold-out Johnny Brenda’s on March 24. Watch it below.
