Record Store Day Exclusive vinyl box set of Cream, Royal Albert Hall Happy Record Store Day. Today, dozens of independent record stores around the area are celebrating music with in-store performances from musicians and special limited edition vinyl releases. Below are some highlights of stores around our area. You can go here to find a list of participating stores near you.

A.K.A. Music (Old City) – Teaming up with Philebrity, there will be live music from 1-5pm, featuring Restorations, Heyward Howkins, Bridge Underwater, Mikele Edwards. More information at the store’s Facebook event page.

Repo Records (South Street) – Local bands performing, giveaways of records, CDs, etc.

Long in the Tooth (Center City) – Show featuring local bands starting at 9pm, after closing. Also, if you are 21 or older, stop by during the day for other refreshing “give-aways.”

Main St. Music (Manayunk) – Bands performing all day – from noon to 6pm including: Billy Bragg at noon; Travel Lanes at 1:50, a signing with The Joy Formidable at 2:30, Shark Tape at 4 and Generationals at 5PM.

Hideaway Music (Chestnut Hill) – Lots of limited RSD releases available, special screening of “Last Shop Standing” at 12 noon, and rare 45 records being spun all day by local record enthusiast Thomas Browne.

Siren Records (Doylestown) – Plow United perform at 5pm, Peasant at 4pm, plenty of RSD releases. More information at the Facebook event page.

Gold Million Records (Bryn Mawr) – Meet and greet with Frank Zappa’s album cover artist, Cal Schenkel.
