When we say “warm up,” we’re not talking about temperature here. The forecast for Saturday indicates that Roots Picnic attendees will be plenty warm. It’s more about getting psyched, ramping up your energy for the day-long live music endurance challenge that is The Roots’ 6th Annual summer festival – and helping out a good cause in the process.

The Inaugural Roots Rock Run, which Okayplayer announced this afternoon, is sponsored by Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter’s GrassRoots Community Foundation, and will benefit two local programs. First, it serves as the kickoff of GrassRoots’ Daddy’s Little Girl campaign, encouraging fathers to spend more time with their daughters. It also raises money for Harding Middle School‘s CHICKS Health and Wellness program. The race starts at the school at 9 a.m. – which leaves plenty of time to run home, shower, and get to festival pier by the time the Picnic gates open at noon.
