Dive Deep with Majical Cloudz: New LP, playing Kung Fu Necktie 9/10

Both haunting and poppy, lush and minimalistic, it’s safe to say that Majical Cloudz have an interesting and different sound. With a name like that, one would almost expect something much sillier, not brooding and emotional. Yet that’s what adds to the mystery of Majical Cloudz, started back in 2011 by Devon Welsh and backed by Matthew Otto. The Canadian duo released their first LP, Impersonator, in May and it’s an awesome collection of songs; Welsh’s beautiful vocals are surrounded by piano and synth-based downtempo. Majical Cloudz embark on their first North American headlining tour soon, and will be playing at Kung Fu Necktie on September 10th along with fellow Canadian openers Moon King.
