Sean Nicholas Savage begins a new life in the video for “Other Life” (playing PhilaMOCA on 7/19)
Montreal recording artist Sean Nicholas Savage released his latest full-length Other Life on Canadian label Arbutus Records in May, following a transitional period in his life that revolved around the end of a relationship. Recorded in Germany, Other Life is an isolated and sparse landscape the traces the path of the individual after a break-up through simple synth accents and the barest of percussive foundations. The minimalist arrangements let Savage’s message through crystal clear, though, and it’s obvious the album was a necessary exercise in catharsis.
Throughout the record Savage seems to be having an out of body experience – on the title track he sings about how it’s time for him to move on and live his”other life,” one that seems to have been occurring in a parallel universe to the life he used to know. The video for “Other Life” indicates a theme of duplicity as well, with shots alternating between Savage frozen in blue light and exploring a deserted town in a prison uniform shortly after being released. He’ll be in town with Norwegian Arms and Jamaican Queens on Friday, July 19th at PhilaMOCA; tickets and information can be found here. Watch the video for “Other Life” below.
