Bummer of the Moment: Cheers Elephant announces its relocation to California
This is kind of a drag – we got word this afternoon that our friends in Cheers Elephant, one of the best live bands in the city of Philadelphia, have announced their plans to relocate out west to sunny California. In an email to fans, the band en masse wrote that they were leaving “for a new perspective on life, music, and everything in between. Philadelphia has been engrained in our music since the day we became Cheers Elephant, and we certainly wouldn’t be here without your support and love. Seriously… we cannot thank you enough.”
Their “Farewell For Now, Philadelphia” show will be on Saturday, November 23rd, when they open for Kopecky Family Band at The TLA; tickets and information can be found here. While we’re certainly bummed to lose one of the city’s liveliest musical assets – we’ve been hooked on Cheers since its 2008 debut, through the 2011 followup Man Is Nature and last year’s Like Wind Blows Fire – I will say that it’s good to hear that the move is being undertaken as a band en masse, and they remain committed to making music and performing. After they’re gone, we’ll be right there when the next Cheers Elephant tour swings through town.
Below, some highlights from the Cheers catalog.
