Review: Reforging bonds with Hot Water Music at The Trocadero

Born out of the prolific hardcore/punk scene that was 90’s Florida, Hot Water Music is one of those storied bands that comes and goes seemingly at will, but never staying down for good (see: Get Up Kids, Boysetsfire, Bane, et al). The fans love them too much, and it’s likely whatever causes the members had to walk away aren’t any stronger than the bonds that brought them together in the first place. That energy was evident on stage at The Trocadero on Friday. Hitting on songs that span most of their career, from older singles like “Remedy” and “Wayfarer” to tracks from their 2012 release Exister.

Openers Torche did what they do best, brought the sludge-y stoner sounds that they have mastered in grand fashion. Having spent their career taking the sounds cultivated by bands like Kyuss and fine tuning it with shoegaze sensibilities and a pop aesthetic that they probably don’t wanna talk too much about, Torches live show is a crushing testament to the power of melodic metal.
