Girl Power! Waxahatchee, Tegan and Sara, Carrie Brownstein and more collaborate on empowering track “Go Forth, Feminist Warriors”
Waxahatchee (aka Kate Crutchfield) has collaborated with a slew of female rockers on an empowering anthem titled “Go Forth, Feminist Warriors” for Rookie Mag. The track features an all-star cast of artists like Carrie Brownstein (of Sleater Kinney, Wild Flag and Portlandia), Dum Dum Girls, Tegan and Sara, Kimya Dawson, Kate Nash and Rookie Mag’s Tavi Gevinson (among countless more). It was written by Katy Davidson of YACHT and Mariana Ritchey, and intended to be a feminist version of the 1985 charity single “We are the World” (performed by Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Lionel Ritchie and many others). The uplifting, triumphant track promotes women to “say shit when we want to, wear what we want to” and conquer.
Although Waxahatchee has no upcoming tour dates in Philly, she’s been a huge voice in the local music scene, and we’re thrilled to see her collaborate with such like-minded and talented women. Plus, there’s a great pizza metaphor in there. Rock on! You can listen to “Go Forth, Feminist Warriors” below. Read the full article/interview Rookie did with Katy Davidson here.
