It’s Johnny Cash’s birthday, and local indie rock group Our Griffins are celebrating.

The band released a new music video paying homage to Cash’s “Another Man Done Gone,”  a traditional folk song about chain gangs popularized by the famous country singer.

In Cash’s version, all three eerie minutes are filled with the acapella sounds of his raspy, southern drawl with an occasional grasp of fresh air from Anita Carter’s soothing voice. Our Griffins follow similar suit with an initial acapella performance by frontman DJ Brown. The only accompaniment the singer gets throughout the song is the buzz of an amp, and the strum of a guitar with subtle harmonization nearly one-minute into the tune.

The video also reflects the style as song – with the camera zoomed on Brown’s face while he sings, the footage is as simple and powerful as the song itself.
