Broken Bells, Au Revoir Simone play to an enchanted crowd at the Trocadero

Three girls strutted onto the Trocadero’s stage last night, each donning a flouncy dress, maybe paying homage to the first spring-like day in months. Opening the show, Au Revoir Simone, hailing from Brooklyn, played their dream pop tunes to entice an easily seduced Saturday night crowd.

The balcony was packed and drinks were in excess, until James Mercer and Danger Mouse took to their pod-like keyboard stands and beams of cerulean lights claimed the stage. Broken Bells, just having released a new LP, After the Disco, in February, played songs off their new album, as well as their 2010 self-titled debut. The crowd was mixed, with older fans that obviously follow Mercer’s indie rock band, The Shins, and those who wanted to boogie down with Danger Mouse’s neo-psychedelia influence in the band.

Attendees seemed to fall into the futuristic enchantment of After the Disco with every song the band played. To add to their thrill, Au Revoir Simone re-entered to play three songs with Mercer and Danger Mouse. With a prompt start to the show, fans flooded into the streets of Chinatown before eleven after Broken Bells closed their encore with “Trap Doors,” off their self-titled LP.
