Watch Kurt Vile and Alpine’s Phoebe Baker cover Neil Young’s “Albuqurque”
Highly regarded by critics and his most loyal fans as one of Neil Young’s best albums, Tonight’s The Night, was released in 1975, sandwiched in between On The Beach (1974) and Zuma (1975). The album reflected a dark, grief-laden period for Young, as two of his friends – Crazy Horse guitarist Danny Whitten and roadie Bruce Berry – had both died of drug overdoses in the months before the songs were written. Of the many standout songs on the album, the slow, sad, and country flavored “Albuquerque,” is one of the record’s highlights. Recently, Kurt Vile covered the song on RocKwiz, an Australian television music quiz show with Phoebe Baker from the Australian band, Alpine. Watch Vile and Baker perform it below with the RocKwiz Orkestra. Kurt Vile & the Violators return to Philly on Friday, June 20th with The Districts for a benefit for Connor Barwin’s Make The World Better foundation.
