PREMIERE: Watch Ron Gallo perform “Expensive Hair” for SoFAR Nashville, get a taste of his new Ronny LP
Philly’s Toy Soldiers frontman, charismatic Ron Gallo will release his debut album Ronny later this month on American Diamond Recordings. He describes his solo work in a curious manner, using terms like “weirdo country” and “troll pop,” but Ronny, his debut album, is darkly comical and more personal than his previous work.
Similarly, a short film that Gallo released in May parallels the humor of the new album. The best part of the film comes when Gallo explains to his friend that he can’t help him because it’s “1 pm in the morning”. By the end, Gallo is poisoned by his friend and lies in a coffin while his friends play a hand-game over him. The juxtaposition of the two images creates the sort of humor that is prevalent throughout Ronny.
Earlier this week, Gallo did a session with SoFAR Nashville, performing “Expensive Hair”, which you can listen to below. A quirky song, the chorus states, “I loved her for her separation from her expensive hair” while the rest of the song chronicles the misadventures of four women. Again, the juxtaposition of the lyrics and the chorus creates a lighthearted feel.
Gallo will play a record release show June 26th at Spruce Street Harbor Park; tickets and more information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar. Watch the SoFAR video below.
