XPNFest Recap: Caitlin Rose made a charming appearance on the Marina Stage
With raindrops beginning to drizzle down, Nashville’s Caitlin Rose brought us a strong dose of imaginative country rock ‘n’ roll on the Marina Stage. Backed by Los Colognes from her hometown, Rose played songs from her 2014 LP The Stand-In, along with a pair of covers and old favorite.
Heavy on themes of love and heartache, Rose’s playful demeanor and outgoing banter with the crowd gave the set a laidback and breezy feel. So did her song “Only a Clown,” which she described as being about a clown that wore a wife-beater and kept the kids occupied at the parties her parents used to go to. Stand out songs included a cover of The Deep Vibration’s “I Was Cruel,” bouncing set closer “Shanghai Cigarettes” (taken from 2010’s Own Side Now) and a poignant rendition of “Dallas” by The Felice Brothers. Check out photos and the setlist below, and listen back to the audio here (via the WXPN media player).
