Hang out with Alex G and friends at The Fire on August 17th
Local indie singer-songwriter, Alexander Giannascoli, better known as Alex G, will be playing at the Fire on August 17th to celebrate the release of his new LP, DSU. The album has gotten a lot of attention lately, from Pitchfork and Rolling Stone, and, of course, the Key. In his review, John Vettese pictured Giannascoli as “a creative introvert holed up in some West Philly apartment or Fishtown warehouse, layering guitar drones and drum loops, harnessing the right feedback tones, crafting songs that expunge his ennui to tape.”
In a recent interview with Impose Magazine, Giannascoli talked about his inspiration, explaining that that “most of the stuff I write about is the stuff I’m afraid to speak about. It’s a way to vent. Some of the stuff that really bothers me I can warp into something that is unrecognizable and means something to me.” It also means something to a lot of die-hard fans as the lyrics are instantly relatable, like the driven yet hollow persona Giannascoli describes in “Harvey”.
Alex G recently played at Walla Fest, and has been touring with Elvis Depressedly. Catch the two groups, along with Cold Foamers and Snoozer, at the Fire August 17th. Listen to “Harvey” from DSU below. Get more details about the show here.
