A dynamic duo: Listen to a new Flying Lotus song with Kendrick Lamar
Wondering what could top the work that rapper Kendrick Lamar set a high standard with on his last album, good kid, m.A.A.d city? Then look no further than this new Flying Lotus song, featuring Lamar, “Never Catch Me.” It’s from the forthcoming Flying Lotus album, You’re Dead out October 7th (Warp Records).
Flying Lotus is the stage name of Steven Ellison, a music producer, electronic musician and rapper from Los Angeles. The critically acclaimed musician has teamed up with Lamar for a post-jazz fusion influenced hip-hop jam that has Lamar at the top of his rap game and FlyLo pushing the intersection of jazz and hip-hop. Musically, the song has its antecedent in jazz fusion classics like “Teen Town,” and “Punk Jazz,” by Weather Report, and progressive rock/fusionist drum genius of by drummers like Bill Bruford and Billy Cobham. In addition to Lamar, the new Flying Lotus album features appearances from Snoop Dogg, Herbie Hancock, Thundercat, and Angel Deradoorian, best known for her work with Dirty Projectors.
