Mike Pays Heat is a Philadelphia indie four-piece who have a whole lotta spunk. If you haven’t seen their magnetic YouTube videos, then I highly recommend checking them out. In a couple of them – “Around Here” and “All I’m Good For” – the boys congregate on a sofa and jump into the music, quickly snatching your attention. Drummer Daniel Siper uses the box of a board game (Quelf, a great game in and of itself) to keep tempo for the rest of the band mates, Ian Hunter (vocals/guitar), Alex Osman (guitar), Wil Schade (bass), who playfully sing and play along.
The newcomers to the Philadelphia are currently celebrating the release of Relaxatives, their split EP with New York’s Cloud District. The split has a youthful, coming-of-age feel with the two bands complimenting each other’s similar-but-different sounds. Listen to it below, and check out a video of the band playing their song “Oxygen” in the dazzling acoustics of their dorm room. Like what they’re putting out there? Keep an eye on their Facebook page to see when they’ll play Philadelphia next.
