Kick off XPN's Dr. Dog Days of Summer with free "Love"

One of the XPN-verse’s favorite Philly bands of the past decade is, without a doubt, the psychedelic popsters of Dr. Dog. They’re the rare band in the rock world with tremendous likeability and crossover appeal. Staunch classic rock advocates appreciate their devotion to the three B’s – The Beach Boys, The Beatles and The Band. Indie fans appreciate their mind-bendy psych rock trips and DIY sensibilities. Jam scene devotees love their instrumental prowess and fearless drive to rock out and be in the moment. And fans of good songwriting, well, they like that these guys write a heck of a lot of good songs. This Saturday, September 13th, Dr. Dog plays it’s biggest hometown show to date – a one-off mini-festival at the Skyline Stage at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts that the guys have cutely dubbed Lawn of Mann. It’s a killer lineup; in addition to Dr. Dog, there’s weirdo rock impresario Mac Demarco, poppy acoustic punks The Front Bottoms and the arty and electrifying Hop Along (another one of our Philly faves). And to celebrate, we here at The Key are joining the WXPN on-air hosts for a week-long celebration of the Dr. Dog Days of Summer.

Each day on The Key, we’ll have a different Dr. Dog related feature; on the XPN airwaves, you’ll hear Dr. Dog double shots all week. And through Thursday, you’ll have your chance to win tickets to the concert (as well as a soundcheck BBQ party) at the XPN Facebook page.

To begin the week, we offer you this free download: a World Cafe performance of the song “Love,” a slice of pop perfection from Dr. Dog’s 2013 album B-Room, performed live for NPR’s World Cafe. Listen and download below; get tickets and more information on Dr. Dog’s Lawn of Mann festival at the XPN Concert Calendar.
