Listen to Glitter smash glass and sing about Julie Andrews on their new Broken Glass EP
Ever wondered what a song about Julie Andrews would sound like? If you answered yes, we’d like to direct your attention to Philly indie pop group Glitter‘s new EP Broken Glass. It includes a song called, you guessed it, “Julie Andrews,” a simultaneously airy and drum-heavy track that somehow fits the famous posh actress. The rest of the EP is just as fabulously quirky: “In The End” is a song with an eerie backing track reminiscent of Beirut’s Eastern European stylings; the vocals are a steady monotone at moments, but it works, adding a certain mysterious quality to the song that belting out lyrics would not have achieved. There’s also the trippy “Heart and Soul” that plays up lyrics “And now we’ve gone and ruined it!” by throwing in the sound of smashing glass (a nod to their album title, perhaps) each time they say it. Broken Glass is an EP that you have to hear to fully grasp, but once you do, you’ll be glad you took the time to listen. To hear these songs (and more) played live, head to Ortlieb’s tonight as Glitter takes the stage with Royal Shoals and Chalk & Numbers.
