Ryan Adams on World Cafe | Photo by John Vettese

God bless the internet. We sort of saw this one coming and honestly, we’re surprised it didn’t happen sooner. When Ryan Adams did a Ryan Adams did a World Cafe session in early September, he covered two songs; “Mother” by Danzig, and an absolutely amazing version of “I Want To Know What Love Is” by Foreigner. The covers were only available on the radio broadcast, not on the archive of the show on NPR.

Well, lo and behold, a version of it popped up on Youtube today on Stereogum.

Listen to Ryan’s cover of “I Want To Know What Love Is” below. It starts off tender and simmers to a soulful, rootsy boil. During the World Cafe session with host David Dye, Adams performed a previously unreleased song, “The Door,” which was supposed to appear on Adams’ unreleased “black hole album.” He also perfoms “Gimme Something Good,” “Peaceful Valley,” “Stay With Me,” and “Shadows.” The performances are heartfelt and sound fantastic, however Adams’ interview with Dye, in which he talks extensively about metal, pinball, and the making of his new album are more than worth the 53 incredible minutes listening to it.

Listen to the interview and performance here.
