Chill Moody introduces new Phirst Tuesdays at Bourbon & Branch to support Philly local talent
Philadelphia music advocate and hip hop artist Chill Moody announced today that he will be heading a new music initiative in Philadelphia called Phirst Tuesdays. Phirst Tuesdays will be an open mic/jam session that will take place every first Tuesday of the month at Bourbon & Branch. The night of sign-up performances will feature Chill Moody’s own band including Man-Man, Wheatbread and JRoc to play as the performers’ live backing band throughout the night. Phirst Tuesdays will also include various hosts, with December’s to be hosted by R&B artist Beano who has recently returned from a tour in Africa singing back-up vocals for Jahiem.
The initiative began as an ode to Philly’s former 5 Spot/Black Lily shows from the late 90’s that attracted national attention and showcased amazing talents including Floetry, Jill Scott, and Kindred the Family Soul. The nights were backed by nationally recognized Philadelphia neo-soul artists The Roots and Questlove. Moody explains his drive to reinvigorate the Philly music scene saying:
“I always hear stories about how Philly’s music scene used to be, I just want my generation to have something to speak on in the future”.
The goal of these shows is to create a comfortable space for artists, music lovers and industry folks to convene and discover together. It is clear that Philadelphia is currently experiencing an immense cultural embrace of the arts and this is just another way that the support has proved it’s worth. Artists around the area are highly encouraged to sign up for the PHirst Tuesday jam sessions at Bourbon & Branch, which you can do here.
