The Psychedelic Furs kept 80s post-punk alive at Ardmore Music Hall

Last Friday 1980s post-punk was alive and kicking at Ardmore Music Hall in the form of The Psychedelic Furs. Playing to a sold-out crowd, the crafters of some of the best rock songs of the early MTV era were a joy to watch. Led by the charismatic force of Richard Butler, the Furs burnt through an 18-song setlist. The crowd was ecstatic from the first notes of “Into You Like a Train” onwards. “The Ghost in You,” “Love My Way,” “Heartbeat Beat” and “Pretty in Pink,” among many others, were treats to hear. Butler paraded about the stage and used his whole body to engage the crowd. Richard’s brother Tim Butler also certainly wowed on bass. It was certainly a great way to begin a cold January weekend. Phildelphia-based rock band Travel Lanes opened. They certainly were a rockin’ opener. With an EP under the belt (Hey, Hey, It’s Travel Lanes) and more new music promised this year, they are one to look out for. They will next be playing Dawson Street Pub on January 24.
