Philly-born rocker Dave Hause took to the airwaves on WXPN last night with a guest DJ set during the Philly Local show, showing off his wide-reaching musical tastes. He played a moving Leonard Cohen song right next to a searing Restorations jam, a blissed-out War on Drugs anthem next to an aggressive Run the Jewels gut-punch and kept the hour lively and unpredictable.

Hause’s local punk rock roots showed up in selections from Cayetana and Restorations, he shared a heaping of hometown love on The War on Drugs, and included surprising picks from the pop world (yup, Taylor Swift made the cut, and  during a talk break after the song plays Hause totally defends his choice…not that he really needs to).

But for the most part, his DJ set focuses on songwriting – a craft Hause has honed with panache over the years, going back to his time in the hard-touring band The Loved Ones – and his DJ set is a collection of fellow songwriters that he finds inspiring.

During the show, we also get some insight into Hause’s plans for 2015: a couple studio side-projects, the writing and recording of a follow-up to 2013’s Devour and another round of touring – which is where he was introduced to all these songs in the first place, during long drives between shows. Listen back to his guest DJ set below.
