Free At Noon Flashback: Father John Misty puts on a witty, one-of-a-kind show
Indie folk artist Father John Misty took the stage at today’s Free At Noon and unleashed his charm on a packed room of buzzing fans. After finishing their first song “I Love You, Honeybear” off of their upcoming album Honeybear, lead singer J. Tillman joked “All the best rock moments happened at noon. I think Jimi Hendrix burned his guitar at noon.”
The group played an impressive set, especially with Tillman hopping off stage a handful of times throughout the performance to mingle in the crowd, all the while the band continued playing, waiting for their cue. Tillman jibed that people should get their things off the front of the stage, muttering “You think I’m f***ing joking?!” and coyly grabbing one of the coats resting on the edge and throwing it over his shoulders with a pose. It was a uniquely conversational performance, with fans feeling comfortable enough to pose questions, one man even howling “You want to go to brunch after this?!”, in which Tillman quipped “I dunno, you sound pretty cute. Maybe I do.”
