Satellite Hearts head back to their rock ‘n roll roots with “Doing Things Right”

Over a year since their last release, Philly bluesy rockers, Satellite Hearts, have gone through a change in lineup and pared down to a trio. Their September 2013 release, Four to the Floor, had a much lighter blues EP than their formerly aggressive rock ‘n roll sound, as was their contribution in the Philly Tapes Philly series.
But after a period of hibernation – where they performed as the backing band for Ali Wadsworth and Kuf Knitz – Satellite Hearts is back with its original indie rock sound. Under the circumstances, the name of their first single – “Doing Things Right” – is appropriate. The song opens with a thumping bass line from Lucas Kinz that quickly leads into Justin Pellecchia’s distinct range of vocals. “Your mother won’t do it and your father will only give you hell” sounds like the punk rock anthem to any angst-filled teen.
Pellecchia’s sound beautifully contrasts with their low guitar distortion. This track makes it easy to detect their infectious stage presence with screaming choruses and pedal experiments all backed by Keaton Thandi’s power-packed cymbal hits. You can catch Satellite Hearts playing at Johnny Brenda’s Feb. 21 with Illinois and Electric City; more information at the XPN Concert Calendar.
