“I’m glad they were playing Nick Drake right before this,” said George Lewis Jr. to the Austin Convention Center. “Because we are going to be very mellow.”

Lewis – better known as Twin Shadow – played the opening set at Friday’s Public Radio Rocks showcase at SXSW, drawing heavily from his new Eclipse, just released on Tuesday March 13th via Warner Brothers. The album was already being hailed as a departure, but this set took it a step further, reinventing its songs as meditative acoustic ballads with minimal synthesizer flourishes. This, along with his rich baritone vocals, gave the set the sound of late 80s Peter Gabriel.
