Free At Noon Flashback: Lord Huron show their versatility with a surprise stripped-down show

Today’s Free At Noon concert featured folk rockers Lord Huron. The LA natives climbed on stage to a packed house downstairs at World Cafe Live. Frontman Ben Schneider remarked that they may be looking funny with just the four of them seated across the stage, explaining that their bus had broken down in New York earlier that day so they had grabbed what they could and made off for Philly. “We couldn’t miss World Cafe,” he said.
The set leaned on the acoustic side, though drummer Mark Barry was still able to contribute to the group’s sound with tambourines, bongos and maracas. They played brand new songs off of their latest, Strange Trails, and wrapped up the performance with their older favorite “Time To Run”. The group gave the crowd a final surprise by jumping back on stage for one more song, chuckling that today was filled with plenty of curve balls. The performance was tight, each member knowing their roles well. Between twanging guitar lines and spot-on vocal harmonies, the show was filled with that lively, youthful energy that Lord Huron’s music evokes, no drum kit necessary.
