Recap: James McMurtry showcases Complicated Game at NonCOMM
James McMurtry kept things simple during his set on the final night of NonCOMM. The Texan showcased his new record Complicated Game, released on a label of the same name earlier this year.
He opened with the chuckle-worthy lines of “Honey don’t you be yelling at me when I’m cleaning my gun / I’ll wash the blood off the tailgate when deer season’s done” from “Copper Canteen,” a dry humor showing through in both the wit of his lyrics and the subtlety of his banter. The only non-Game song McMurtry performed was set closer “Down Across the Delaware,” a geographically appropriate track from 1995’s Where’d You Hide the Body.
