Wayne Magazine Music Fest brings PhillyBloco, New Orleans’ Dirty Dozen and more to the suburbs
Saturday marked the inaugural Wayne Magazine Music Fest, a day-long event that filled the Philadelphia suburb’s main drag with music, food and fireworks.
Student bands from the local branch of Bach to Rock got the day started, performing covers of Coldplay and Taylor Swift for friends and family in the crowd.
Philly folk trio No Good Sister shared songs from their debut demo EP as well as some new tunes, backed by Mike “Slo-Mo” Brenner. A surprise introduction by The Hooters’ Eric Bazilian welcomed XPN Fest alums Viv and the Revival on to the stage while the crowd kept their feet moving.
Things got really wild when PhillyBloco congo-lined their way in the front of the stage, kicking things up a notch with their audience-participatory, Brazilian-fusion music that was a hit with the kids.
A round-robin of musician sharing began with Bazilian and two sax players from the the forthcoming Dirty Dozen joining Rugby Road for a few songs, followed by Rugby Road lending a hand with Dirty Dozen’s set to close out the night. A fireworks display capped off a wonderful day of diverse music and fun.
