The 14 weirdest things we found at the Punk Rock Flea Market
Every year, R5 Productions’ Punk Rock Flea Market brings out some of the craziest things Philadelphians have to sell. We checked out this year’s epic garage sale, held this past weekend at the “Flea Market Dome” at 9th and Spring Garden, and this is what we saw.
14. A Star Wars Stormtrooper helmet
Photo by Tom BeckJust enough of an oddity to make our list. Stormtrooper helmets aren’t something you see every day, but given the popularity of Star Wars, we felt this one deserved to be lower on the list. It’s certainly weird, but not that weird.
13. This risque shirt referencing Intercourse, Pennsylvania
Intercourse, Pennsylvania has been the butt of many jokes, but it’s hard to believe somebody would willingly buy this and wear it around. Weird, but there’s far weirder to come.
12. A miniature replica unicorn
How majestic.
11. This creepy Satan mask
If you really want to step up your game at this year’s office Halloween party, this mask is for you. Apologies in advance if this gives you nightmares.
10. This arguably creepier stuffed John McCain doll
I suppose this is one way to campaign. However, the doll would be more accurate if the lump was only in his left cheek.
9. This adorable pizza posse shirt featuring kittens guarding a pizza (I don’t get it either)
“Pizza Posse” is totally going to be the title of my next rap album. I think I found the album art too.
8. A nice button-down shirt with “I HATE EVERYONE” written on the back
Totally worth $25.
7. This Yoda head basket
Purchase me, you will. But seriously, it earns bonus points for the creepy white ear hair.
6. This mini Rodney Dangerfield
“This flea market don’t get no respect. No respect at all.”
5. Bones
There were no price tags on these or anything. Just two open tubs of bones.
4. This taxidermy bear head
The only practical use I can see for this would be to hide it under the covers of my bed to scare intruders out of my room.
3. This 70s-esque painting of black power Ned Flanders
Can you diddly-doodly dig it?
2. Teddy Scares
Who doesn’t love zombie teddy bears with detachable heads? But just wait; it gets weirder.
1. Communist Earrings
Rounding out our list is this pair of “fashion earrings,” which sport a stylish hammer and sickle. You know, for when you’re going for that 1950s Soviet look. Can’t wait to see more crazy items next time the Punk Rock Flea Market sets up shop!
