See the Rock Exploits of Girl Band, Lower Dens, and Viet Cong at the 15th Annual Making Time
Last Friday Voyeur Nightclub played host to the 15th annual installment of Making Time. DJs and dancing were abound, but the main meat of the night were the trifecta of Girl Band, Lower Dens and Viet Cong. Strobe lights and sweat created an atmosphere ripe for the rock exploits of these talented groups.
First up was the Dublin quartet of Girl Band. Led by the energetic vocals of Dara Kiely, they blasted through a set of intense rock catharsis. With only an EP under their belt (The Early Years) and a record on the way, they proved to be a band to watch.
Second up was Lower Dens. Playing many cuts from what is certainly one of the best records of 2015 (Escape from Evil), they were fantastic. With an anachronistic aesthetic of 1980s rock as the bedrock of the album’s sound, Jana Hunter and crew entranced the crowd. With bass and guitar countering and blending with Hunter’s angular vocals, Lower Dens definitely lived up to the dance vibe of Making Time. They even concluded with a glorious cover of Hall & Oates’ “Maneater.” Hunter gladly accepted the overwhelming audience appreciation. They should certainly be prepared for more and more fan love to come their way.
Last on the band bill was Viet Cong. With hints of New Order and post-punk styled jams, they got the crowd revved into hyperdrive. Crowd-surfing and moshing to their extended noise jams, they carried the Making Time event into Saturday morning.
