Watch Strand of Oaks perform for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert
Philly artist Timothy Showalter, better known by his performing name as Strand of Oaks, did an NPR Tiny Desk concert for Bob Boilen, which premiered on NPR’s website today.
Showalter performed three songs off his latest release, 2014’s HEAL. This latest LP proved to be Showalter’s best yet, as the album garnered almost universal critical acclaim from basically every major music source, even winding up on many Best of 2014 lists. While the many obvious similarities between Strand of Oaks and Neil Young can be drawn, a more specific comparison is between Showalter and Jason Molina’s songwriting techniques.
Watch his performance below, including “Goshen ’97,” “Plymouth,” and the epic “JM,” about Jason Molina.
