Dave Hause, Rocky Votolato and Chris Farren took on Union Transfer

Philly native Dave Hause rocked an awesome homecoming show at Union Transfer on Wednesday night. A full band made up by his brother Tim on guitar and keys, a couple of friends on drums and bass, and Chris Farren on guitar and keys backed the punk rock singer-songwriter. Touring in support of his sophomore solo album Devour (2013), Hause played an energetic set of songs from it as well as his debut solo LP, Resolutions (2011). Midway through the set, the band left the stage for a little while so Hause could play a couple recently written songs solo. Throughout the entire set, the crowd sang along to the music loving every minute of it. Closing out the set with “The Shine,” Hause invited his dad up on stage to play guitar with the band. Since his dad was wearing an old XPoNential t-shirt, Hause gave a shout-out to XPN and the festival this weekend. (He was on the air covering Joe Strummer earlier that day.) Pumped up from Hause’s lively performance, the crowd cheered for more and the band returned on stage to close out the night.

Seattle-based singer-songwriter Rocky Votolato co-headlined the show playing a set in support of his recently released LP Hospital Handshakes (2015). His eighth full-length studio album, Votolato had an immense back catalog to pull from and played a great solo set of new songs off Hospital Handshakes along with several songs off True Devotion (2010), Makers (2006), and Suicide Medicine (2003). During his set, Votolato mentioned that he must have a thing for Philadelphia because the last 3 bands he toured with are from Philly, and one of his favorite bands, mewithoutYou, is also based out of Philadelphia. Votolato then played an emotional rendition of mewithoutYou’s “In A Sweater Poorly Knit.” In between songs, Votolato shared stories with the crowd, which gave his performance a more intimate feel.

Fake Problems frontman and Antarctigo Vespucci collaborator Chris Farren opened the show performing a solo set. Playing a mix of songs off his most recent EP Where U Are (2015) along with a few covers, Farren warmed up the audience with his clever lyrics; in between songs, he comically told a few stories behind his song inspirations.
