XPNFest Recap: Son Little got mellow and groovy on the Marina Stage
Local guy Son Little put the packed Marina Stage crowd into a mellow groove during his set this afternoon midway through this year’s XPoNential Music Festival.
Easing into “Loser Blues,” Son Little’s Aaron Livingston reprised his stand-out Non-COMM set from a few months ago with a mix of old and new songs. This first song was built around sparse guitar playing from Livingston, foreshadowing some of the bluesier riffs that were still to come.
New track “O Mother” stretched into poppier territory for a few minutes, anchored by a great hook and chorus that show promise for the project’s forthcoming recordings. “The River” was the centerpiece of Son Little’s 2014 debut EP Things I Forgot and brought his set to a close with its smooth and soulful melody.
