Philly’s own Good Old War received a warm hometown welcome at today’s Free at Noon, and delivered a dazzling set. Tim Arnold – who left the band last year to raise his family – was back on the drums, once again adding his voice to the band’s signature 3-part harmonies.

Good Old War just returned from a tour in support of their fourth studio album, Broken Into Better Shapewhich was released this past June.  They played several cuts off that record, as well as old favorites.

The band was quite spirited on stage – vocalist/keyboardist Keith Goodwin showed off his dance moves, and guitarist Dan Schwartz kept an electric guitar on a stand, occasionally stepping up to shred some electric solos.

After the band finished their set for the radio, they buried themselves in the middle of the crowd and played several stripped-down songs, including the closing track of the new record, “Don’t Forget.” Arnold and Goodwin held their children in their arms as they sang, their voices ringing through the dead-quiet venue. The tight circle of people around the band added to the intimate, one-of-a-kind performance.

Good Old War’s final stop on their tour will be the Pinelands Music Festival in Millville, NJ. It’s a one-day festival happening tomorrow (August 15), so don’t miss out! Get tickets here.

(The band did step away from their microphones to sing in the crowd for the encore, but you can still hear their voices and guitars in the distance – we left it intact to preserve this special performance.)
