Sigma Sound Studios was arguably one of the most influential recording studios in Philadelphia music history, helping shape and foster acts from David Bowie to Madonna to countless Philadelphia soul musicians. Though the legendary N. 12th St. studio will soon be turned into apartments, fans and music historians will be able to get their fix in the upcoming documentary from Visual Innovations, Inc., Sigma Sound: The Sound Heard ‘Round The World.

As our friends at Philebrity first reported the film will focus on the historic studio’s lasting legacy and will feature interviews with founder Joe Tarsia, Todd Rundgren and several other big names in Philadelphia music history. The documentary, to be released in 2016, will follow the Philly-based studio from its beginnings and highlight their heyday as Philadelphia’s premiere site of record production during the 1970’s and 1980’s.

Sigma Sound is now lost to history forever, but the “Philadelphia sound” that emerged within its walls will endure and now, with the help of Sigma Sound: The Sound Heard ‘Round the World, Philadelphia music fans will never forget the studio’s lasting impression. Watch a trailer for the movie below and keep an eye out for news of its 2016 release.
