Folkadelphia Session: Kina Grannis

Just because I’ve been late to the party doesn’t mean I’m denied the fun. That’s certainly the case while listening to singer-songwriter Kina Grannis. Grannis skillfully blends strong pop sensibilities – you know, songs that your whole body and mind can really fall into – with the classic singer-songwriter disposition. Channel this through excellent arrangements, a tight live group, and a strong sophomore album outting with Elements, and you’ve got something special on your hands.

I say we were late to the party because so many other people have discovered and fallen for Kina, her music, and her showmanship that I was surprised I had not been acquainted. A little jealous in fact. Chalk it up to my own ignorance and distracted manner of discovering music! In any case, Grannis is truly a musician of the internet age. I’ve rarely seen a musician interact with her bevy of fans in such a frequent yet personal way. This is an artist that is navigating and thriving on the rapidly changing river that is the music industry landscape. Good on her!
